The Police in Welkom were given a tip-off on 22 August about people selling mandrax and dagga.
While they were busy with crime prevention in Kutloanong residents in the area gave the police information about a house where illegal substances were being sold. Members of the police visited the house and requested to search the premises. Two suspects, a man (39) and a woman (32), were arrested for being in possession of mandrax and dagga.
In a separate incident another male has been arrested for being in the possession of a dangerous weapon.
The three suspects will appear in Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Monday 26 August.
According to a statement by the South African Police Service the police regard the seizure of the dagga and mandrax as a breakthrough because of the consequences the substances might have carried.
The members were applauded by the community for a job well done.
“This gesture from the residents of Kutloanong is an indication that they are sick and tired of drugs within their residential area,” concluded the Cluster Commander of Welkom, Major General Lerato Molale.
