Police, roads and transport MEC Butana Komphela is the third MEC to appear in court. This follows after two other – Health MEC Benny Malakoane and Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Mathabo Leeto face charges for alleged abuse of public funds.
Komphela was ordered to appear in court after an application by the Public Service Association (PSA) to compel him to adhere to a labour court ruling of October 2015.
The ruling concerns three cases against the department in which the PSA was successful during arbitration – in connection with the adjustment of salaries of three officials of this department. According to the PSA’s application in the Labour Court the department did not comply with the awards, despite numerous efforts.
The Labour Court now ordered Komphela to explain his conduct before, or on October 14, and also be present in court. – Cathy Dlodlo
