Bloemfontein – South Africa’s leading men’s singles tennis player, Kevin Anderson, has beaten Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka to advance to the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells ATP Masters.
Anderson beat Wawrinka 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 to hand the Swiss player his first defeat of the year, bringing to an end a 13 match unbeaten run which saw him win the Chennai Open in India and the years’ first Grand Slam in Melbourne, Australia.
Meanwhile, defending Wimbledon Champion, Britain’s Andy Murray, has also been knocked out of the tournament in the Californian desert after losing in three sets to Canada’s Milos Raonic.
Four-time champion Roger Federer eased into the quarter-finals as well with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Germany’s Tommy Haas.
