The ANC Youth League in the Free State said the Mayibuye iTextbook Retrieval Campaign will assist some children to get out of poverty. ANCYL’s provincial chairperson Makalo Mohale explained that every Friday and Saturday will be a textbook retrieval day throughout the province.

He said the campaign is a continuous programme that will gather old academic and literary textbooks from communities and will be sent to the Departments of Education and Sports, Arts and Culture to be used at schools or local libraries.

“We want to deal with a society that thinks about up and coming generations and don’t want to build a selfish society. It starts with a textbook and a book no matter how old it is, one way or the other is still useful,” he said.

Mohale added that since the campaign’s launch in Bethulie, last weekend, they already have more than two-hundred books and most were in good conditions. The provincial ANCYL will retrieve textbooks in Smithfield this Saturday at the George Rantee Hall.
