GALOOME SHOPANE ANC youth want President Jacob Zuma to step down.
These are the findings of consumer insights company, Pondering Panda.
The company’s Shirley Wakefield says 56% of respondents who claimed to be ANC supporters felt that Zuma should step down.
Wakefield says the survey was conducted immediately after NUMSA President Andrew Chirwa called on the union to ask for Zuma’s resignation.
She says the findings are in line with the Sunday Times Ipsos survey released in December last year, which found that 51% of a representative sample of 1000 ANC voters wanted President Zuma to resign.
"It’s clear that Zuma is unpopular amongst younger South Africans, and many of them would like to see him replaced as president. With more than one independent survey now showing that the majority of ANC supporters think he should step down, this is an issue that the ANC should consider carefully. Our study also shows that younger voters are less tolerant than older voters, when comparing our survey findings with that of the Sunday Times in December,” she adds.
1997 respondents between 18 and 34 years throughout South Africa, are said to have been interviewed.
