ANC in the Free State will hold a provincial general council that will review the party’s basics.
According to spokesperson Thabo Meeko, they will undertake a review of the work that has been done by the ANC since the elections early this year. Meeko said members will engage in robust and democratic debate. The three days conference will take place at Koppies Kraal in Parys from Friday till Sunday.
Meeko explained that the conference will focus on strengthening the policy of the ANC in the province and continuation of building the party’s legacy. He said the theme of the conference is “Back to Basics, Forward to the People’s Power”.
“We want to revisit the founding traditions and values of the ANC. There will be about 405 ANC delegates from 376 branches throughout the whole province. In attendance we will also have the ANC Woman’s League, ANC Youth League, ANC Veterans League and we have also invited our alliance partners, Cosatu, South African Communist Party as well as Sanco to be part of the movement that will be discussing the way forwards from now until the coming national conference,” he said.
Meeko said they are expecting the national leadership of the ANC to address the provincial council. He explained that they will be holding a vibrant meeting that will be focus on upcoming 2016 municipal elections, economic and social transformation issues affecting the province.
