On the 20 July 2014, African National Congress launched Imvuselelo 2014 at Botshabelo’s Kaiser Sebothelo stadium. The key speaker at the rally was National President of ANC and South African President, Jacob Zuma.

The Imvuselelo, which means “Re-awakening”, is a special rally was launched in 2009 at the 52nd Polokwane Conference with the aim to intensify branch work in each community, to ensure sustainable mass work and establish ANC branches as vanguard of their communities, and to make branches the focus of political and ideological work for cardreship of the movement.

With Minister Nomvula Mokoenyane, the former premier of Gauteng Province, as the programme director for that day, the mid-winter chills did not deter the spirits of the reasonably filled stadium and not only were they being reawakened but they were also informed and entertained by local music groups and DJs.

President Zuma introduced his speech by singing his favourite long walk song “Inde le ndlela” and in his speech he asked all members of the ruling party to stand and take an oath of commitment to all the party’s aims and objectives. Zuma also outlined the 4 resolutions to be implement as the road now leads to the 2016 Local Government Elections.

These resolutions included:

2. Every young person over the age of 18 should be not only a registered member but of the Youth League.
3. Women and girls will be given preference and every woman over the age of 18 should join the Women’s League.
