Anathi Noxuba (25) has been making waves in Bloemfontein for the past few weeks when his muffin business went viral for reasons such as his attire while selling it. Bloemfontein Courant paid a visit to Noxuba to hear where Muffin King, which is the name of his business, started from.
Noxuba explained that he used to sell muffins in high school and when he saw that there’s a market for baked goods in the city, he revisited his high school idea. “I started selling in January and started out with 90 muffins a day, selling them to offices in town. This quickly moved on to 200 a day when I decided to sell at the Central University of Technology,” he said.
Noxuba said that because he is not a student, he struggled to get into the campus but made a plan every day. Eventually he was caught, but that wasn’t in vain because he was then given a spot next to the gate where he currently sells 500 muffins in four hours.
“Now, in the mornings, I stand next to my stall in my suit because I believe that people do not only buy my product, they ‘buy’ me as well. If I don’t take my business seriously then no one will and when you look good, you have confidence.” This 25-year-old is not only the face of his business as a salesman but he also bakes the muffins himself.
Noxuba told Bloemfontein Courant, he hopes to have his own restaurant/bakery in two years’ time. He is saving up to make this dream a reality. “My message to the youth is, if you have an idea and you believe in it, don’t let anything hold you back.”
He added that the Bloemfontein community has been nothing but supportive and he is so grateful for the people in this town.
