Amount involved in Mangaung overtime investigation still unknown

The amount of the alleged unauthorised overtime payments at the Mangaung Metro Municipality, which are currently being investigated by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit, is unknown at this stage.

According to a statement by the Hawks, amounts will be revealed after the seized registers have been analysed.

Meanwhile Qondile Khedama, municipal spokesperson, told Bloemfontein Courant they are aware of the visit of the Hawks in the city’s HR and Salary’s Office.

Khedama said the administration team brought to the Mangaung Metro by the Free State Executive Council (Exco) is currently following up the matter to establish the facts.

The Hawks in the Free State conducted a search and seizure operation at the Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM)  last week. The financial offices of the municipality were searched and various financial overtime registers were seized after it had been alleged that irregular and unauthorised overtime payments were made to employees of the municipality. This comes after complaints of corruption and fraud had been received.

According to the Hawks, the seized registers will be analysed and further documentation will be requested from the municipality to complete the investigation.
