A 68-year-old suspect has been arrested by police after five slaughtered sheep were found in his possession. The sheep were allegedly stolen.
The suspect, who is from Ezenzeleni near Warden, was arrested by police on 17 March 2021 when police were busy patrolling on the N3 Road. The police stopped a suspicious maroon Toyota Corolla with FS registration plates. The suspect was asked about driving around the area at 03:15 in the morning.
The driver of the vehicle then led the police to a farm where the driver of another vehicle was allegedly loading stolen sheep.
According to police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, the investigation led police to Ezenzeleni near Warden where a white Toyota Etios was found with five slaughtered sheep. Both vehicles as well as carcasses were seized and the first suspects arrested. The second suspect is still on the run.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the slaughtered sheep were stolen at a farm in Vrede. The suspect appeared before the Vrede Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of stock theft,” said Mbambo.
