A 22-year-old female has been arrested after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death. The incident took place at around 11:00 at the Groenfontein Farm near Smithfield on 7 February 2021.
It is alleged that the suspect and the deceased were drinking liquor in their room on the farm when an argument broke out. The suspect took a knife from a cupboard drawer and fatally stabbed the deceased in the chest. He was certified dead by Emergency Medical Services upon arrival. This is according to police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, who said members of the police were informed after farm workers heard the commotion.
“Upon arrival at the scene, a lifeless body of a 29 year- old farm worker was found lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound in the chest. A knife which was used to commit the crime, was confiscated,” said Makhele. Provincial Commissioner, Lt-General Baile Motswenyane said they are very concerned about the prevailing violence of people while under the influence of alcohol. Lt-General Motswenyane urged people to socialise without any violent behaviour as “someone has to pay with his/her life” if this is not adhered to.
The suspect will make her first appearance before the Smithfield Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 9 February 2021, on a charge of murder.
