Thousands of Agang members in the Free State marched together with members of the National Unemployed Voters’ Union (NUVO) against the country’s high unemployment rate.
Agang leader, Mamphele Ramphele, told Courant that the Unemployed Voters’ Union is proof that the current government has failed. Speaking during her fourth visit in Bloemfontein on Monday, Ramphele added that people should be able to create their own jobs without depending on government.
“We should have skilled people who will be certain that they will be able to either create their own jobs or be employed. The partnership between Nuvo and Agang proves that they both aim on empowering citizens and making sure that the country has a constant education and training system,” she said.
Ramphele said South Africa has neglected the entrepreneurship system and emphasised that SETA (Sector Education Training Authority) should be abolished for failing to create skills development amongst the unemployed.
“People should use their votes to vote for change. Don’t listen to anybody saying your vote doesn’t count or you should spoil your vote. Use your vote to vote for an alternative government that will be able to create for us a South Africa that will be a winning country,” said Ramphele.
