ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, explained that the woman was trapped inside the bakkie and succumbed to her injuries that was caused by the head-on collision. According to Meiring, another thirteen people were treated for minor to serious injuries sustained during the ordeal and was later transported to nearby hospitals.
Meiring also stated that when ER24 paramedics and Provincial Services arrived at the scene, both the taxi and bakkie were in the middle of the road. He added that local authorities are investigating the incident as details surrounding the accident are unknown at this stage.
In a separate accident on the same day, ER24 personnel responded to an accident on the R510 between Rustenburg and Thabazimbi between two light motor vehicle and a minibus, which has left eleven people with minor to moderate injuries.
Meiring reported that when medical personnel arrived on the scene they found one light motor vehicle and the minibus on the side of the road while the second light motor vehicle was in the middle of the road.
Meiring added that no serious injuries or fatalities were found. Medical personnel treated injured patients at the scene and transported them to nearby hospitals for further care.
