A fatal bus accident claimed the lives of 6 school learners near Ventersburg in the Free State on 6 February 2024.
According to a statement issued by the office of the premier the bus that was transporting the learners overturned.
In the same statement released by the office of the premier, it is mentioned that the bus was believed to have transported 58 female passengers from an all-girls sports event.
The statement further detailed that the 6 learners were declared dead on the scene, 40 sustained minor injuries, 8 had moderate injuries and while 4 were severely injured.
Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana expressed that he is deeply saddened by the accident and added that this tragedy struck as the province was still celebrating the academic success of the matric class of 2023.
The minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, also conveyed her condolences to the families of the deceased in a statement.
