When a group of six young individuals, who grew up in the same street, realised their passion for acapella music, they decided to get together and form an acapella group, called Palm Tree Acapella.
The group consists of founding member, Lesang Nkadi, together with Mpho Bohope, Boitumelo Mahlatsane and Tshepang Sesing, Thabile Ngwenya and Kgahliso Pelotona. They all started singing together in September 2015. The group chose the name Palm Tree because of the tree’s characteristics of always being strong, even during dreadful situations.
They have just recorded their first ever album with 11 originals songs at the Down Town Studios in Johannesburg. Member Boitumelo Mahlatsane said, while planning to record their album they booked the studio for 14 hours, which was a really tight deadline. “We were nervous while recording the first two songs, but once we got the hang of it, the music just flowed, we couldn’t believe it, we were done in six hours,” he said.
The Palm Tree Acapella group has participated in numerous competitions at Pacofs and around Mangaung. It frequently performs at weddings, old age homes, parties and Mmabana Theatre in Thaba Nchu.
The group will be launching their album with a massive tour launch concert in their hometown of Botshabelo on 28 October 2017, at Nicro Hall in B-Section from 10:00 till late. Tickets are R30 for general admission and R70 for VIP. For more information call 074-500-0361.
