Academic activities at the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Qwaqwa campus will only start next week.
This after the campus was shut down during a protest where students handed over a memorandum of demands last week.
The Qwaqwa campus has reopened on Wednesday and students are expected to be back this afternoon.
Student Representative Council’s Secretary, Nondumiso Langa, thanked students for their patience and further reveals that the campus principal, Prof. Prakash Naidoo, will respond to their memorandum this Friday.
“We have reached an agreement for next week: students can write tests, submit assignments and finalise all their academic activities with their lecturers for the upcoming exams. The campus principal, Prof. Prakash Naidoo, will read out the official responses from the university’s management on Friday. The time and venue will still be communicated to students, in order for them to be present and to listen to the management’s response regarding our memorandum of demands. We can then afterwards reach an agreement or consensus by finding a way forward.”
