The Reach Our Community Foundation (ROC) is hosting a ladies’ tea and benefit concert on 26 May 2018 at the UFS Kopanong Auditorium (Kovsie Church) to officially launch a new exciting partnership.
The two events will feature special guests Hildegard Whites and Ingrid Paulus, better known as Bonita and Vanessa in the famous SABC2 soapy, 7de Laan.
Patrick Kaars, CEO of ROC, said: “We will be launching a new and exciting project under the the Arts, Culture and Dialogue Office within the Student Affairs Department of the University of the Free State (UFS).”
ROC, originally known as REACH Bloemfontein, has been strengthening many social structures and revitalising morality in the Heidedal community since 2002. The Arts, Culture and Dialogue office serves as a channel through which the UFS’s Student Affairs mandate finds expression in visual, literary, performing arts and dialogue. The purpose of the office is to explore different ways of understanding social relations through artistic encounters thereby accentuating the UFS Human Project. Through visual, literary, performing arts and dialogue its vision is to create opportunities to enhance and facilitate students’ skills of critical thinking and modes of being in a way that is consistent with human rights and the principles of social justice.
Part of its mission is to collaborate with external stakeholders in order to create a platform for students and community members to use their gifts to serve and empower the student/Mangaung community and use these interactions to create a sense of belonging. The goal of the event is also to raise funds to enable the organisation to continue providing this wonderful platform for development to the children and youth in our community.
“We have been addressing the basic needs of the vulnerable and created platforms for growth through individual involvement and leadership development,” Kaars said, and added: “Our vision is to serve, develop and transform our communities.” Performing artists who will be featuring at the benefit concert are Jacobus Silver, Thabo Hlongwane, Lucy Sehloho, Bliss Acapella, Kovsies Got Talent Finalists and the ROC KIDS. Tickets will be R100 for the ladies’ tea and R80 per person for the benefit concert and are available from The Arts, Culture and Dialogue Office within the Student Affairs Department of the UFS and the ROC Foundation office in Heidedal.
