Gillian Iffland from Bloemfontein, who now resides in a little town called Farnham in the United Kingdom, was rallied by a group of her friends to participate in the Chiltern Ridge Ultra Trail on 8 May 2021 in England.

Iffland decided that this would be a perfect opportunity to raise funds for Lebone Village, since her older brother Steven, has affiliations with the village “In fact, my whole family really admire what goes on at Lebone Village, so I am only too happy to be doing something, even if it’s small, to help,” Iffland said. “I half thought that it would be cancelled because of Covid when I signed up, but it’s happening and I’ve done lots of training,” she added.

Cyndy Bosman, administrator as well as advertising and fundraising coordinator at Lebone Village, has created a Givengain Campaign to encourage people to donate.

The funds raised by Iffland at the Chiltern Ridge Ultra Trail will go towards a new creative counselling and play therapy centre at Lebone Village.

Play therapy helps children understand muddled feelings and upsetting events. Play is vital to every child’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, creative and language development.

“Play therapy helps children in a variety of ways. Children receive emotional support and can learn to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts. Sometimes they may re-enact or play out traumatic or difficult life experiences in order to make sense of their past and be able to cope better with their future. Children may also learn to manage relationships and conflicts in more appropriate ways,” Bosman explained.
