5 killed in Free State horror crash

Five people, including three minors, died in a horror collision with a truck on the R103, at Vrede in the Free State.

It is alleged that the men were driving in a Toyota sedan and the driver reportedly failed to stop at a junction, where a truck was passing by.

The Toyota driver then allegedly drove past the junction and crashed right underneath the passing truck’s first trailer.

The accident occurred at approximately 23:10 on Friday night. In the process, the two adult males and three minors aged between five and ten years old in the sedan, died instantly on the scene.

Only one person, a twenty-one year old male, survived the incident but was still admitted at the local hospital.

According to Police Spokesman, Mmako Mophiring, the men and children were relatives and are from the Ezenzeleni township in Warden, in the Free State.

It is unclear why the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the junction.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
