3rd of July is International bag-free day

Bloemfontein. – Tomorrow International Plastic Bag-free day is celebrated around the world and you too can be part of this important day in a bid to save lives on our planet.

Greyton, a small transition town in the Western Cape, recently snapped up the opportunity to adopt the Rethink the Bag campaign into their country community. Their sincere intent is evident in the commitment they have shown to be the first town in South Africa to officially become a plastic bag free zone tomorrow.

Can you imagine a Zero Waste world in which we continue to use single-use plastic bags? It is just not possible, right? There are several reasons why we should phase out single-use plastic bags around the word.

Europeans overwhelmingly support a ban on single-use plastic bags and the European Commission tried to push such a measure during 2012 but it was stopped by the interests of some member states and a part of the industry.

Yet another reason to continue asking for such a ban at national and international level. Tomorrow will be the third international Plastic Bag-Free Day.
