The Free State police have apprehended 34 suspects at the Southern Landfill Site. The police had an operation, aimed at addressing criminal activity in the area, their arrest resulted in confiscation of drugs, a brand-new television still in its packaging, a weigh scale, alcohol and ammunition.
Free State police spokesperson, Lorraine Earle said that the majority of the suspects are foreign nationals who reside in the landfill site.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that 31 of the arrested suspects are illegal immigrants residing at the landfill site. Further investigations are underway to determine whether any of the suspects are linked to other criminal activities,” Earle explained.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein and Batho Magistrate’s Courts tomorrow.
