When a member of the SAPS arrived at home in Rocklands at about 02:00 from an overnight operation in Mangaung, he was approached by four unknown males, with one pointing a firearm at him.
While making his way to the door, the ever-ready Constable working under the Crime Prevention Unit in Kagisanong, immediately drew his official firearm and started shooting to the direction of the suspects.
The suspects fled the scene without having an opportunity to fire one round. A case of pointing of a firearm was registered by Kagisanong SAPS for further investigation.
Earlier the same day at about 09:00, members working at court in Batho saw an unknown male aged 25, who had blood coming from a wound on his arm. The officer approached him after calling for backup. The suspect was interrogated and it was discovered that he was one of the suspects who had attacked the Constable at his home in Rocklands.
Upon further investigation two more suspects aged 17 and 23, were arrested and a Plasma screen, laptop as well as four cellphones were found in their possession. All three are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and attack on police official.
It was further discovered that the 25 year old suspect, is on the wanted list at Mangaung SAPS for a rape that occured in 2015 as well as Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. The fourth suspect is still at large.
Mangaung Cluster Commander Major General Lesia lauded members for a quick response on arresting the suspects and also thanked the community for always heeding the call on providing valuable information that always leads to arrests.
The suspects are set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court for possession of suspected stolen property and attack on police official. The 25 year old will appear for Rape and Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
