20-year-old rapist sentenced to life imprisonment

Sebuti Dintwe was recently found guilty by the Bultfontein Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment.

This comes after an incident that took place on 28 September 2019 when a 21-year-old girl from Phahameng in Bultfontein went to a local tavern to go look for her brother. According to Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, after the victim realised her brother had already left, she decided to buy herself some drinks and before she sat down an unknown man pulled her from behind and requested to talk to her but she refused.

“The accused dragged her outside the tavern and took her to a certain shack where he raped her. He again dragged her to another shack where he raped her for the second time and left,” said Makhele.

Detective-Constable Lerato Mokupi handled the case and worked around the clock to ensure the arrest of the suspect. The matter was reported to the police and was assigned to Lejweleputswa District Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

“Constable Lerato’s sterling investigation and relentless efforts ensured that justice is served for a 21-year-old victim and the perpetrator ended up in jail where he belongs and will never abuse women again,” concluded Makhele.
