North West police spokesperson, Aefje Botma, says the suspect, who initially evaded arrest, was handed over to the police on Monday afternoon by his brother.
The suspect is alleged to have stabbed Legae several times and doused her with petrol before setting her alight in the early hours of Sunday at Ramosadi village, outside Mahikeng.
Botma says according to information available at this stage, reports suggest that Legae was on her way home before the attack by the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms.
Motswenyane also thanked the family for handing over the alleged perpetrator to the police to face the law.
She further added that the police, working together with communities, will not hesitate to turn the tide against gender-based violence.
