The Toyota Cheetahs fullback, Clayton Blommetjies, will be playing in his 100th game for the team when the team runs out against the Bulls on Friday evening in round two of the Super Rugby Unlocked.

The Cheetahs named an unchanged starting XV for the match against the old enemy. The only change to the match-day 23 will be on the bench.

This change comes in the number 16 jersey where Jacques du Toit will be making his official comeback to the Cheetahs following a year at the Southern Kings. Du Toit replaces Chucky van der Westhuizen as the replacement hooker. Van der Westhuizen made his debut for the Cheetahs last week during the 53-31 victory over the Pumas, however, this occasion was soured somewhat by an unfortunate yellow card for the Namibian international.

The 30-year-old Clayton Blommetjies was hugely instrumental in the Cheetahs win last week during round one, and it was especially in the first half that he made a big impression on the attack.

The two-time Currie Cup win proved why the Cheetahs have so much faith in him.
The cherry on the cake for Blommetjies is that he will be bringing up his century for the Cheetahs against the very team where his professional career started back in 2010.

Apart from having played for both the Cheetahs and Bulls, Blommetjies had a stint at the Scarlets in Llanelli, Wales, and the Leicester Tigers in England.

The Cheetahs assistant coach, Corniel van Zyl, told Bloemfontein Courant that he is looking forward to seeing the exciting player perform during the special occasion.

“Clayton has had his ups and downs over the years. He has grown into a very talented player and he has matured so much.

“If you look at the ball carries he makes every week, most of the time he is the top ball-carrier.

“He gets involved and I think that this week it will be a special occasion for him.

“I’m just looking forward to seeing how he can perform and play well.”

Friday evening’s game between the Cheetahs and the Bulls at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 19:00.
