Two security officers have been suspended at the Universitas Academic Hospital (UAH) in Bloemfontein following the hijacking of a female doctor and her companion at the hospital last week.
The hijacking, which happened in the hospital’s parking lot around 1AM last week Thursday, shocked the provincial Department of Health and caused the department to take measures to increase security.
Department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says everyone is a suspect at this point and the suspension of the two officers is a precautionary step.
Mvambi also adds that the two employees will be suspended until further notice and believes the suspensions will be for two to three weeks.
No suspects have been arrested in connection with the hijacking. The stolen car was found near Eunice High School and impounded for further investigation.
Meanwhile MEC for Health, Butana Komphela has condemned the incident which took place at the hospital last week, citing it “opportunistic” as Bloemfontein is a relatively peaceful city.
Komphela says he trusts that the SAPS will uproot the criminals.
