Two murder their spouses: Couples urged to seek marital assistance


The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lebeoana Tsumane would like to urge couples to seek professional/psychological/family assistance as and when they are faced with marital challenges, instead of taking the law into their own hands.

This after a 42-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of his wife and her lover. The incident happened on Saturday at Koekoe village in Maokeng. It is alleged that the suspect who works in the mines arrived at his home unannounced to find his wife and her suspected lover.

According to police spokesperson Thandi Mbambo, an argument ensued and the suspect allegedly pulled out his licensed firearm and shot the lover in the back as he tried to run away. “The wife ran to the street and the husband followed and allegedly shot her in the ear and shoulder. Both the wife (40) and her lover (50) were certified dead at the scene.”

The suspect will appear in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon.

In another separate incident, a 50-year-old man was arrested in Maokeng for an alleged murder of his girlfriend.

“This after police were called to a scene in Marabastad, Maokeng, where on arrival they found a 47-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. She was certified dead at the scene. The boyfriend was found with a scratch mark in his stomach. He was arrested and will appear in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Mbambo.
