The Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, will meet with the Road Traffic Management Corporation shareholder committee in Kimberley tomorrow to discuss the country’s state of road safety and operational measures ahead of the Easter holidays.
According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson, Simon Zwane, there is a high need to put in place new measures that need to be taken to reduce road fatalities in the country.
“There are many things that are still a concern on the state of road safety in the country. We are still seeing too many accidents. There are also a number of initiatives that are being put in place to bring the situation under control, but the number of accidents is still unacceptably high.”
Zwane says the deployment of traffic officers on roads, and the support given to them will form part of the key issues that will be addressed by the minister. He says measures to that effect are needed to change the behaviour of road users will also be discussed.
