Newly appointed Cluster Commander for Thaba Nchu, Brigadier Kgotatso Ramokotjo, managed to squeeze five minutes into his busy schedule to speak to Voice.
Referring to his new job, Ramokotjo says: “It is a pleasure to be trusted to carry such a huge responsibility. I have been waiting for this opportunity.” He adds that it will be yet another new adventure for him in his career as a policeman and relishes in the potential for growth that the new position promises.
Ramokotjo adds that there were less thrilling moments in his career, referring to one of the most traumatic crime scenes he was assigned to in Maokeng in Kroonstad where he had to attend to a scene where a husband had killed his wife as well as his wife’s mother and sister before going on to commit suicide. He adds that these things are part of the job and that each day brings its own challenges.
According to Ramokotjo, one of the more challenging aspects of his job is that people often stereotype policemen as “heartless, godless and selfish”, which he credits to the handful of rotten police officials who spoil the reputation of the armful that are indeed good and trustworthy in their roles.
The ambitious policeman concludes by appealing to community members to strive to use their God given abilities in their respective areas where they work and live, adding that “God has given us everything, for us it is to fly higher and higher.”
As the Provincial Cluster Commander, he will be responsible for Botshabelo, Excelsior, Hobhouse, Thaba Nchu and Tweespruit’s safety. He will also ensure that he creates coherence among different stations, units and communities. – Pulane Choane
