SARS has thus far received more than R5, 3 million tax returns.
In terms of the channels used to file tax returns, the scales are tipping towards eFiling, as a total of 50.05% tax returns were filed via eFiling while 49.94% returns were filed at a branch.
A very small percentage (0.01%) has been filed manually via post so far.
While branches operate between 08:00 to 16:00 this week, SARS tax agents will ensure that all taxpayers in the branch are assisted with their tax returns.
The SARS contact centre will extend its operating hours from 08:00 to 19:00 to particularly ensure that taxpayers opting to submit their tax returns via eFiling have the support required.
Taxpayers are reminded that eFiling is the simplest and quickest way to file one’s tax return and is available 24 hours.
For provisional taxpayers who submit via eFiling, tax season runs until 31 January 2017.
