A 25 year old male who allegedly has been trying to solicit funds from high profile leaders with North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo's identity, is set to appear in court for bail early next year.

The 25 year old male who was arrested by the Hawks last week for impersonating North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, appeared in the Mmabatho Magistrate’s court yesterday.

According to Brian Setswambuung, the provincial spokesperson, the man who was arrested on charges of fraud is set to face more charges as investigations continue.

He was arrested by the Hawks on Christmas Eve in the Northern Cape for allegedly impersonating the North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo in a bid to solicit money from high profile politicians.

Upon realization of the conman’s actions, Mahumapelo’s office then proceeded to warn the public of the scam in a statement after receiving several calls from high profile politicians including a Western Cape-based member of Parliament and deputy minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Andries Nel.

The suspect is set to appear again in court for his bail application on the 4th of January 2017.
