Supra impersonator released on R1 000 bail

The 25-year-old who has been jailed for allegedly attempting to extort high profile politicians using the name of North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, was released on R1 000 bail.

According to the spokesperson for the premier, Brian Setswambung, the alleged fraudster, whose name is Thato Hengari, appeared at the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court on charges of fraud on Wednesday.

He was then granted bail with restricted conditions, one of which was that once a week he must report to the nearest police station.

He was also ordered not to tamper with the investigation, contact witnesses as well as to inform the investigating officer of his case if he intends to leave the Mmabatho district.

Setswambung also adds that the magistrate said there was a possibility that more charges would be added to Hengari’s case in addition to fraud, one of which might be an attempted murder charge.

It is alleged by various witnesses that the conman resorted to threats to bomb Mahumapelo’s house if they do not pay him the sums he requested them to pay.

Hengari will appear again in court on the 29th of March 2017 and it is expected that his trial will begin on that day.
