The Free State police has declared September as Police Safety Month.

According to police spokesperson Zweli Mohobeli, it is a period in which members of the police across the country, who have lost their lives in the line of duty, are being commemorated.

September is also a month whereby police create awareness about safety precautions such as wearing of bullet proof vests.

“Members of the police in the province gathered at NG Church in Bethlehem on Sunday, to pray for police safety. Officials who were at the service were, amongst others, Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport Butana Komphela and Police Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Simon Mpembe.”
