Police are on the lookout for an impostor who has been soliciting funds from people in several provinces as North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo.

According to Brian Setswambuung, spokesperson for North West government, the fraudster has tried to solicit money from people in several provinces including Gauteng, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.

In the latest incident, the impostor contacted a Member of Parliament (MP) residing in the Western Cape, requesting financial assistance for an alleged student named Tshepo Morokoa, who was reportedly stranded in Cape Town.

He reported to the MP that he was requested by President Jacob Zuma to assist the son of an old acquaintance. The crook requested the MP to transfer R2000 to Moroka, however, the MP became suspicious when he realized that the cell phone number used to call him was not registered on the network.

Setswambuung says the man is very convincing as many whom he has tried to solicit the money from believed that it was indeed Mahumapelo they were talking to. Police are still investigating the matter.
