The Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court has refused bail to a Turflaagte man suspected to be involved in the murder of a retired Transnet train driver of Pellissier. Magistrate T.P. Dikotsi refused to grant bail to the 23-year-old Kgotso Gigi and postponed the matter to 16 September for further investigation. The 73-year-old Hendrik Knoetze was discovered by a neighbour in his house after not been seen for some days. He was found in a sitting position against his fridge in his kitchen, with his hands and feet tied together with ropes.
Gigi was arrested several days later after information was received from the public. The investigating officer in the matter testified that the cell phone of the deceased was allegedly found with Gigi. The court also heard that the investigator was waiting for a forensic report on a jacket that was found on the scene of the crime. The autopsy report was also not available. Magistrate Dikotsi said Gigi could not show exceptional circumstances why he must be granted bail. Opposing bail, the investigating officer also testified that most of the witnesses in the case were known to Gigi, such as his father, and that he could interfere with the investigation. – firstname.lastname@example.org
