The newly renovated swimming-pool at the Mmabana Stadium in Thaba Nchu is ready for use, yet citizens have not had the pleasure of enjoying this new leisure facility. The reason for this has been stated as a matter of security. The windows at the entrance have not been tinted. This means that when people pay their entrance fees, the money will be visible to all passers-by.
The delay means that Thaba Nchu citizens cannot take a dip in the 25 square metre adult swimming-pool. Kiddies will also have to wait to use their smaller and less deep 10 by 20 metre pool. Swimming-pool superintendent, Mohau Lepheane, says they are well-prepared to maintain the pool once it is open for public use. The pool will be open on Mondays to Sundays from 10:00 till 18:00. Three lifeguards, who are trained in life-saving and first aid, will be on duty daily and the area around the pool has plenty of shade for swimmers to cool off. Lepheane says they have plenty of umbrellas to offer swimmers who wish to stay away from direct sunlight.
Mangaung Metro Municipality spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says the matter will be discussed at the next council meeting, along with details on other outstanding projects. – Seithati Semenokane
