One killed, four injured in head-on collision outside Ritchie

A man was killed and four others injured on Monday afternoon after a light motor vehicle and truck collided on the N12 outside of Ritchie, roughly 40km outside of Kimberley.

ER24 paramedics, along with Provincial Services, arrived on the scene and found the truck and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road.

The light motor vehicle was found to have sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

Paramedics found the body of a man, believed to be in his 30s had succumbed to multiple, fatal injuries, inside the light motor vehicle and he was declared dead at the scene.

Four other patients were discovered on the scene. One woman had sustained critical injuries while three others were found to have sustained only minor injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, the patients were transported to Kimberley Hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have escaped injury.

Local authorities will be conducting an investigation into the matter.
