NW brothel case withdrawn

The Nigerian man who allegedly owned and ran a brothel where 26 young children and women were rescued in Klerksdorp last year is a free man after the case against him was withdrawn in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, legal representatives for Charles Chukwukere Okopie argued that the case could not stand as the two key witnesses could not avail themselves in court.

“As the Hawks we cannot say the case has died out. We will try and find out what led to the witnesses disappearing and not honouring their court appearance”.

Okopie was facing charges under the Sexual Offences Act as well as human trafficking. Netshiunda says they had a solid case against the accused and would continue investigating.
