The headmaster of a primary school in North West is officially the highest earning teacher in the country.
This is according to Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga. She said – in an answer to a written question – that Sprompothle Shadrack Mononyane, headmaster at the EJM Mahlabe Primary School in Jericho West in the Bojanala District is the only teacher in the country earning R768 762, or a basic monthly salary of just over R64 000.
He has been in the department’s service for 22 years.
According to information from Persal, the government’s electronic payment system, the majority of headmasters in the country earn R31 700 per month.
Only one headmaster is on the lowest salary level of R123 000 per year or R10 200 per month.
