Not a single Free State government department has improved its audit outcomes.
This is according to the Consolidated Auditor-General Report for the 2015/2016 financial year that was tabled in parliament today. Instead, five departments regressed, which lead to the Free State sharing the bottom spot with Mpumalanga.
The report found that the regression of these departments are mainly due to the failure to conduct investigations into contracts and agreements that were red flagged by the AG in its previous audit reports.
Only two auditees – the Free State Legislature and Fleet Management, maintained their clean audit status.
Provincial Treasury and the department of the Office of the Premier received a clean audit during the previous financial year.
