The Nigerian man who was found in Klerksdorp where 26 women were rescued yesterday by the Hawks, has been arrested.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, the investigation and information received by the Hawks implies that the Nigerian man is the owner and mastermind of the brothel.
Rikhotso says he will appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of human trafficking and the sexual offences act.
She adds that the women have been placed in a safe home and the Hawks have requested the Department of Social Welfare to intervene by providing counselling and to reunite the women with their families.
She says the women maintain they were at the brothel o their on freewill, however, investigations show that some of them were trafficked to the brothel.
The possibility of this being part of a human trafficking syndicate has not been ruled out.
