During her inauguration, Mangaung Metro Municipality Mayor Olly Mlamlei announced that 10 contracters have been appointed to work on getting rid of the bucket system in Bloemfontein, Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu.

She says the municipality will also focus on job creation through the CWP program and improving the operation of water and sewerage plants.

Mlemleli also warned that there are individuals who are stealing water from the municipality. The recent drought faced by the country has led to the municipality enforcing tight water restrictions. She says they have begun cleaning sludge found at the bottom of dams, since the water levels are still low.

“There are many people that are stealing water. There are many illegal connections. I think it’s mostly on the farms, the farmers are out there catching our water, stealing our water, connecting to our water. We are not going to take them to Thuli Mandonsela, we’ll just expose them,” she warned.
