Maroma gang members set to appear in court

A rapist has been convicted and sentenced by the Bloemfontein High Court sitting at the Thabo Mofutsanyane District Child Justice Centre to life imprisonment as well as other lengthy prison terms, Free State police said on Sunday.

Six suspects aged between 21 and 33 all belonging to the Maroma Gang will appear in Bloemfontein magistrate court on Wednesday, 15 February 2017, on what is believed to be a gang related murder.

It is alleged that one of the suspects (33) planned a robbery with the deceased, Samuel Thite (25) on 12 February 2017. On the same night at around 21:00 they went to execute their plan. Along the way an argument ensued between them which led to the deceased stabbing the suspect twice with a knife on the back and ribs before fleeing the scene.

The suspect then went to mobilize other gang members at Ipopeng location. A group of them went to look for the deceased. They managed to find him at about 23:00 on the same night in the same area.

The suspect who was stabbed by the deceased pointed him to other Maroma members. They then fatally stabbed Thite before fleeing the scene.

Intelligence driven information led to the arrest of these six suspects at Ipopeng location in Bloemfontein. The case was registered at Kagisanong police station.
