Colossians 2:7 is a great verse and all Christians should, from their baptism (believer’s baptism), strive to become “rooted and built up in him and established in the faith”.
In the context of this verse, the apostle Paul admonishes the Colossians to walk in Him, meaning they should walk like Him.
They should also be rooted and built up in Him, which means we should find our nutrition and strength from Him and also that we should have Him as our foundation as we mature and grow through Him.
We are encouraged to mature and grow in Christ, and many Christians are making real strides in their maturity. I’ve heard of great stories in churches where the spiritual growth of the congregation is simply beautiful but unfortunately I see very little of that where I live.
I’m sure that there are many other places where churches grow physically (in numbers) than what they do spiritually. Even though my desire is to teach new Christians the basics of our faith, I also see mature Christians reading this article and learning a lot from it.
The writer of Hebrews gives the audience of his letter a very serious admonishment and says: “About this we have much to say and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food.”- Hebrews 5:11,12.
