Newly elected Free State Health MEC, Butana Komphela, was in a meeting marathon yesterday in a bid to better understand issues that plague his department.
The meetings with managers, which were held back to back from 14h00 until late last night, dealt with issues of service delivery to treat HIV/Aids, the revitalization of health care facilities, and the management of mobile clinics.
Free State Health department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says Komphela interrogated the functionality of departments and called managers of these departments to account for their respective offices.
Komphela says he will use the experience he gained from his servitude in the Oversight Committee to address pressing issues, which include ensuring that the Free State Department of Health attains a clean audit and that basic health care services in the province improve.
Komphela, who formerly served as provincial MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, now serves as the provincial health minister after Free State Premier, Ace Magashule, reshuffled his cabinet earlier this year.
