KHC under investigation after toddler’s death

The Kimberley Hospital Complex (KHC) is under scrutiny after a complaint was lodged by the parents of a deceased two-year-old toddler.

It is alleged that the girl was admitted to the hospital for tonsillitis, fever, and ear infection, and was given medication she was allergic to.

The spokesperson for the Provincial Department of Health, Lebohang Majaha, says they are aware of the allegations and are currently investigating the matter. Majaha says Zoey Beckman was admitted to the hospital on January 27, and died a few hours later. Majaha dismissed reports that the department is facing a lawsuit of over R1 billion with regard to this case.

“The family has lodged a complaint after the death of their baby. We have managed to assign a team to do a proper investigation of those allegations. We are hopeful that after the matter has been investigated, the family will be notified in writing as per the findings”.

Majaha says the department sends its condolences to the family as they prepare for the burial.

Majaha has assured the public that KHC is currently fully operational and have made provisions to ensure that they improve service delivery.
