Journalists urged to improve

The Mangaung Metro Municipality and the Free State Provincial Government are amongst key supporters of the Free State Media Awards to be held in Bloemfontein tonight.

The awards are hosted by the Free State Press Forum to motivate all media practitioners in the province to strive for improvement.

According to the forum spokesperson Selloane Khalane, the awards honour journalistic excellence in the province.

Khalane says the awards are also aimed at promoting journalistic principles and accurate reportage.

“There was an outcry for a platform to recognisethe work that journalists does, we then realised that there was a vacuumed thatneeded to be filled, so that we can celebrate journalist excellence and aspire to improve.”

Khalane adds that entries for these awards were open to all journalists, from community, public and commercial media houses. She mentions that entries were not only limited to print, but extends to radio and television reporters.

The categories include Best Print Feature, Best Community News Story, Best Hard News and Best Sports News,Best Radio Feature.
