Residents of Botshabelo cannot stop talking about the brutal double murder of Tumisang Lengau (17) and Thato Salemane (18), whose half-naked bodies with several stab wounds were discovered in the veld by the factory workers last week Saturday.
Lieutenant General Lebeoana Tsumane paid both families a visit on Tuesday 12 September 2017. He was in the company of Free State police personnel. The reason for his visit was to pay his condolences to the family members who were left devastated by the brutal deaths of their daughters. Both girls were still high schools pupils.
The commissioner could not hide his disappointment when the sad news of the girls’ death broke. He condemned the brutal killings and rape and pleaded with community members not to take law into their own hands. “We have dedicated a provincial officer who is working around the clock to bring whoever is responsible for those murders, to book,” he said.
According to Dipuo Mahabuke, who is related to Lengau, both girls were last seen alive on Friday evening. She said since they learned from the police that they haven’t made any arrests, their families live in fear and cannot grieve properly. She said they want closure and want to know why police haven’t made any arrests yet and charged the suspect(s) as they believe that they are known.
