A 40-year-old Free State prosecutor who was arrested after allegedly demanding a bribe from a suspect made a brief appearance in the Parys Magistrate’s Court.
Hawks spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakane, says the Hawks Anti-Corruption Unit pounced on the offices of Patrick Ncongo on Thursday after they received information about the alleged corruption from the complainant who face a charge of theft.
Nyakane says Ncongo, who is stationed at the Parys Magistrate’s Court, allegedly demanded a R1 500 bribe from the suspect to destroy his docket.
Nyakane says Ncongo will be back in court on 7 December.
“During his arrest an amount of R1000 was found in his possession. He appeared this morning but was denied bail. The case was postponed for a formal bail application,” says Nyakane.
