The Free State Department of Education is due to remunerate 36 school staff members at the Bartimea School for the Blind and Deaf in Thaba Nchu, east of Bloemfontein.
This comes after several teachers and care workers at the school had lodged complaints about a two months’ salary backlog. The provincial spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says the unpaid staff will soon be paid and the department is investigating the matter.
“We are working on ensuring that they are payed. They are eligible to be paid by the department. What could have caused the delay is that as the department still has to allocate funds for the school,” said Ndaba.
He ads they are hopeful the school will receive funds before the end of next week.
